Music Resources

Introduction

Music practitioners working with teachers on the Confident Creators programme, encouraged using Music as a tool to develop children thoughts and ideas on a topic: to consolidate knowledge, to experiment, to take risks and to problem solve. Pegasus Opera’s music practitioner Aga Serugo Lugo produced a music toolkit available below to help teachers incorporate music into lessons.

Planning a Lesson Incorporating Music

Props/instruments & planning the space

Get any instruments together in advance. Doesn’t need to be anything elaborate eg. Chairs and tables make great percussion instruments, using your hands to tap out rhythms – or children using body percussion. Do you want to move furniture to the side to create a ‘performing’ space?

✔ Discuss the theme/topic

What do children already know? Teachers might want to input particular knowledge here, show children some stimuli for discussion eg listen to a story/recall vocabulary or knowledge they already have.

Warm-up

We recommend a 5 step warm up which covers focus, breathing, pitch, physical warm up and vocal warm up. See below for audio and video resources.
