Year 2 Drama lesson – using storysquare and conscience alley techniques to generate children’s ideas for Antarctic diary entries
Drama is a great way to help children generate ideas for writing. In this year 2 example, the teacher wanted to help the children, on a Monday morning, start thinking about what you might encounter on a visit to Antarctica, working towards writing a diary entry at the end of the week. The attached plan and reflection shows how she achieved this, using drama to help children explore their ideas, what they already knew and how to develop a story from those ideas. Children were encourage to express themselves using the 1st person throughout.
